<suppInfo>The watercourses are connected and flow directed; a sub-type of connector flows through waterbodies to create a linear network for hydrological modelling. Those features within the drainage basins that flow into the Coral Sea are generally captured at 1:25000 mapping specifications, those features within the Fitzroy, Burdekin and Murray Darling drainage basins and those features that flow towards Lake Eyre have been captured at 1:100000 mapping specifications while those that flow into the Gulf of Carpentaria or are within Cape York Peninsula have been captured at 1:50000 mapping specifications. The Watercourse lines - Queensland dataset and the Canal lines - Queensland dataset together form the states drainage network. Features within this dataset have been captured or updated from the best available imagery with an attribute within the data describing the source and reliability. Data sources include but not limited to: - Queensland Orthophotography - Satellite Imagery

Features are attributed with perenniality, hierarchy and names where available. Features within the 100k network are also stream ordered using the Strahler method. Names have been sourced from:

- Geoscience Australia 100000 and 250000 Topographic Data
- Survey Plans
- Field checks
Feature Types: CONNECTOR - An artificial line used to connect watercourses across waterbodies to enable network analysis. Captured down the centre of the feature or the best interpretation of where the original watercourse would be and in the direction of flow. These features are used in canal areas, lakes (polygons), reservoirs (polygons), swamps and watercourse areas. To complete a linear network through a subject to inundation or saline coastal flats, a watercourse feature type is used. CULVERT - An artificial line used to connect linear water features underground (including under major roads, railways and other significant features) to enable network analysis. Features are captured down the centre of the feature or the best interpretation of where the feature is located or as a straight line joining the visible ends of the water feature if the location underground is difficult to determine. If the end point of the feature cannot be determined, an assumption is not made as to where the watercourse may flow and a feature will not be captured. ATTRIBUTERELIABILITY - Reliability date of the document or authority that the name of the feature was acquired from. <statement>This dataset is GDA2020 compatible. The source data, and therefore the captured features, are georeferenced as GDA94 (horizontal only). The horizontal accuracy of the geo-referencing and/or data collection method for this example is greater than the datum offset between GDA94 and GDA2020 (1.8 meters). The resulting dataset has been nominated as a low-accuracy GDA2020 dataset. As this data has not been directly captured in GDA2020, nor transformed to GDA2020, the resulting data is 'GDA2020 Compatible' not 'GDA2020 Compliant'.
This dataset was compiled as part of a collaborative program between the Queensland Government and Geoscience Australia to upgrade the states hydrographic data for inclusion in the national hydro geospatial fabric.
The original data that this dataset has been compiled from was scanned from topographic repromats, captured by photogrammetry, digitised from satellite imagery or orthophotography or taken from Geoscience Australia 250000 topographic datasets with reliability dates ranging from 1978 to 2005. This original data was spatially updated between 2010 and the start of 2014 using the best available imagery over the area, 10cm - 60cm orthophotography along much of the east coast to 2.5m satellite imagery over the interior, the Gulf of Carpentaria and Cape York Peninsula.
Original data was compared to current imagery and updated (moved to correct position, deleted as the feature no longer exits or added as the feature is new). Linear features within the data have been concatenated and segmented at intersections and flow directed down-stream to assist with hydrological modelling. Canal lines where applicable merge with watercourse lines. As part of the collaborative agreement between the Queensland Government and Geoscience Australia, both organisations undertook to update the features within allocated drainage basins. Those drainage basins updated by the Queensland Government were updated using Microstation Geographics V8 in MGA94 (GDA94) before the data was transformed to Latitude/Longitude (GDA94). Geoscience Australia undertook their update process using ESRI ArcGIS V9 or V10. The Queensland Government was responsible for merging all basins into a whole of state dataset stored within an ESRI Geodatabase that agrees with the Geoscience Australia Topographic Database Schema in Latitude/Longitude (GDA94). The data is continually being updated using higher resolution imagery and LiDAR data. Information received from stakeholders and feedback from the community is also incorporated. In 2018 a program was undertaken to attribute features that would comprise a consistent state-wide 100k network within the single multi-scale dataset for use in vegetation management. This 100k network is also stream ordered using the Strahler method. A small number of basins flowing into the Gulf of Carpentaria are not yet stream ordered but are to be completed by early 2019.
